In case you didn’t know, Christmas is next week! How about that?! I am going to share an almost complete tour of our saltbox home that sits between town on one side and farmland on the other. Did I tell you how much I just love where we live?!
Let’s start in the Master Bedroom! My favorite part of our room is that it has 3 windows!!! Which means we get a ton of light during the day, and I love it! As you can see we don’t have a tree in our bedroom, which I would love to plan for next year, but we added some other fun, affordable and cute items! Not much was changed, but all the small touches make a big difference.
While living in a unique home, from our downstairs you can actually walk in a full circle through all the rooms… How cool is that?! I can tell ya that when our fluff balls get in their running spurts, they absolutely love it! Our petite kitchen is directly off from our living room. One of my favorite things to do to this space, is add Christmas garland around the sink! It’s simple and adds so much to a small space.
Our sweet little kitchen
Who cannot love a coffee buffet in their kitchen/dining area? See our “A coffee buffet transformation” here.
Our back room, which I feel is definitely the coziest room in the house! This was my favorite room to decorate this year, between the mantel and the built ins!
“Our Back Room Transformation” was the biggest and longest DIY home project we have completed, but yet our most favorite. Why? Check out the blog!
Although this is the only tiny area that we have in our upstairs hallway, we love dressing it up for each season!
I hope you enjoyed exploring our home along with me, and hope to see you back here again soon!
Some of us feel pressured or encouraged to do more and more every year with all new great ideas for Christmas. And that is ok, but know it’s also ok if we aren’t up to 100% with everyone else as far as how they are decorating, what they are doing to decorate, or how much they are fully decorating.
So, this year we changed up the decor outside our home for Christmas, and I love it!!! We changed our wreaths this year to something more neutral, and honestly, I like it so much better specifically for our home.
On black Friday we zipped down to Kmart, and they had a great selection of ribbon and bows! Nine bows, and 2 spools of ribbon (I could not locate online the exact color, but it’s this exact thing but in white) for $21.44!!! That is 50% off what we would have spent. We simply attached the bows to the wreaths by using the attached wire already there and looping it around and then twisting like, a thousand times! The ribbon I cut to length and then looped around the wreaths and held through the window at the top to hold. Just the extra ribbon being held inside at the top by the window keeps them very secure during weather conditions.
The Front Porch
I will say one thing, I wish so badly that what I had was a big wrap around porch. I have probably said that in so many blogs, but it’s true! My husband and I said if we decide to stay (since we love this area so much) then we would add on, this is a must! One day!!!
Our sweet little porch looks a little different this year! Last year I added a metal bucket and placed some wood pieces in it with a lantern aside. This year I took the metal bucket away and added a super cute petite 2.5 ft, flocked tree in my barn bucket on legs. That is one that I just absolutely adore since I’ve bought it at a barn sale. Aside is a lantern with outdoor, waterproof remote controlled candles that I purchased from amazon! I’ve always had bad luck with candles going bad with weather conditions. But so far so good, they are holding strong!
A Quick Side Note!
The lantern previously was so rusted and faded from hard use. So instead of going out and buying a new one, I simply taped off the glass and used black exterior spray paint that we already had on hand.
And instead of placing the wreath on the sled this year, I just left the skates. And I am so thankful I did! It’s more simple and doesn’t look overbearing as much. I like how much more visible the skates are now too.
This year I am just so happy with how everything turned out for our porch. It’s simplicity and cuteness in one just makes me feel at ease and giddy on the inside! 🙂
Our side tree, front and side bushes have lighting on and the deer were placed.
Deer – As much as I love the deer, I didn’t like the lighting on them…. It was like a led blue undertone and it just didn’t go with the rest of our warm white lighting. So this year Peter took all those lights off and added white lighting, it made a big difference, and was easier than what we anticipated.
What’s missing??? We excluded the lit walkway this year. As much as I love it, sometimes it can be a pain. The walkway included stakes in the ground that held strands of lights that formed the brick pathway. It’s actually funny because when the dogs were let out, they would either trip or have to find a way to hop over them. So not only the time it took to put them up, but they were in the way for the dogs, so we decided to not put them up this year.
I hope you enjoyed our “Simple outdoor Christmas 2019”, thanks for reading!! Stay tuned for another blog coming your way on our indoor decor:)
It’s been a while, that I have been on here, I’m sorry! But I am excited to share with you, I finally found the duo for our bed! I will be completely honest, I struggled with knowing how to get that “fluffy” look, like Brooke w/ “nesting with grace” had. After reading her blog and doing more research we found an affordable queen sized duvet cover and added a king sized insert inside the cover… DONE!!! That did the trick!
And guess what?! They both were purchased off Amazon! Talk about affordable!!! Here is the link to the duvet cover. When we first received it, and I saw the package, I was dissapointed… I was like “it has to be bigger than this.” But opening it and feeling the material, was ah so soothing! It was so soft, and pure white with cute buttons across the whole bottom and ties at the corners to enclose the insert. The duvet insert was huge out of the package, at first I wasn’t sure that it was going to fit inside our queen cover. But it did, and I am so glad it did!!! Once the insert was placed inside the cover, it was perfect! The comforter is so fluffy on our bed and instead of it looking like there isn’t much, and super flat… It has more dimension! The cover set included 2 shams which are currently not being used, and that is because: 1. We don’t feel we need more pillows right now. 2. We need 2 bigger pillows to accurately fill the sham size.
I promise you, there are sneaky ways to purchase bigger items like this for a better price! It isn’t always about the big companies, stores etc. It’s about creating a space that you envision, within a budget! When I was doing my research a lot of the covers and inserts I found higher interest in were on amazon. They have a vast selection and you can’t beat their prices! Thanks for reading, Happy Friday!!!
I have been on the ball this year, and I LOVE that feeling!!!! The Christmas decor, both inside and outside our house, was completed just a few days prior to Thanksgiving!! And our Christmas cards were ordered and sent out the first week of December!
This year I was shooting for a simple and cozy feeling, with mostly neutral colors. And let me tell ya, we are very happy with how it turned out!
The living Room
I have always been the type of person who doesn’t like clutter and I don’t like a room feeling overbearing using too many items, and I am so thankful Peter feels the same! In saying so, this year we didn’t add as much to our living room space, and it feels just as cozy and inviting like the previous years!
Although we kept it more simple this year, I did do some shopping for a few new items. Who doesn’t like to go out and get something new?! While browsing at Target, I came across these galvanized house lanterns, and instantly knew I had to get them! They fit perfectly on our handmade wall-shelf that sits above our love seat. (I purchased 2 different sizes for staggering) I also picked up these fake frosted Christmas trees for UNDER $10!
Our 6 1/2 ft tree was cut down from a local, beautiful tree-farm located within a few miles from our home, and we paid only $34!!!! Click here to find it yourself! This year we only used our neutral colored Christmas balls and added a natural appearance with some pine cones! To add the more rustic feel we twirled burlap a couple times on the tree, and lastly added our glistening star atop.
On-top of our beautiful, handcrafted, farm-table lays a frosty, fresh garland against a rusty grey table-runner. Staggered in sizes between the garland are 5 white candles that give off that warm and cozy feel for our table. For those of you who shop at Home Goods, you know it’s a great place that you never know what you’ll find, so in that case click here for a garland that replicates what I purchased.
I was easily inspired adding the lit garland around our kitchen window after seeing pictures from @nestingwithgrace Christmas blog. The garland was purchased at our local Kmart, I’m sorry I could not locate it on their website so here is one very similar. Instantly our window felt more full, and inviting with the surrounding warm glow of twinkling lights. And guess what…. We only paid $20 for the garland (s) and the strand of 50 lights! That, my friends, is a great deal!
Garland galore! Can you tell I love garlands?! Both garlands going up our stairway are great for accent lighting. These twinkling lights give off a warm glow, like a night-light that leads up the stairs! It is the same garland we used for around our kitchen window (see link above). And at the landing, a 3 foot, frosted frasier fir tree occupies one of my favorite yard sale finds, our unique wood slab stool.
The great outdoors
This year I tweaked the design to our little brick patio! Along side the sled with skates, I added a galvanized basin with logs, and a new lantern with fresh cut greens from our Arborvitae trees! Although I wish our front porch was a big wrap around with a porch swing, there is something so special about a small brick porch filled with lots of love!
