Our freshly updated patio

Wow, talk about zero crazy Winter storms, and then BAM… Summer is here!

We like to spruce up our deck early in the season so when the warm weather does hit, we are ready for some good ol morning coffee, game nights while the sun is setting and grilling out on a weekly basis. Let’s just say, a little bit of a refresh can make a big difference!

Here is what we did!

1.  Touched up with some paint

A little bit of paint did the trick! We have been using Behr’s DeckOver, and we are pleased. Our deck honestly needs to be replaced, due to weak boards. But Behr’s DeckOver is thick and does the trick until we do replace. And I repeat, that paint is like mud so be prepared when you go to apply, but that’s why we love it! Besides touching up the deck, we brought out the black exterior paint and touched up the deck arbor. It looked good as new with a couple swipes of paint!

2. Replaced chair cushions

We purchased our dining patio set (including cushions) about 4 years ago, and you can tell it has ware and tare including the cushions. It was time to swap them out for some new and bright ones. let me tell ya, I didn’t realize how expensive they are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy cow! I saw anywhere from (for a mid-moderate good quality) $30+ for 1 cushion – not a set! Sets were starting at about $49+. I searched and searched, I wanted a light grey color, and a cushion where the bottom and backing were attached (making one full piece), plus it needed ties. No more Velcro! Why do I say that? Velcro was a goner in probably a span of 2 years of use.

We found these Mid back dining chair cushions through Home Depot, and we love them!!!!!!!!! Here are only a couple reasons why we love these:

  • Super affordable ( $29.98 per set)
  • light grey solid color
  • UV resistant- fade resistant
  • Ties to attach to chair
  • Dry quickly after getting wet
  • Lightweight,
  • Form has kept with use they have gotten since we purchased them .

3. New pretty pillows

When you update your cushions I mean you need to update your pillows as well! Opalhouse line at Target hit the jackpot with these black and white throw pillows

The ivory and black are out of stock but they also were through the Opalhouse line at Target.

Our neutral pillows added some texture to our cushions!

4.  Updated to a new and bright area rug

As much as I loved the pop of green on our previous area rug, the more time I spend changing my style of decor and color scheme, I’m a neutral kinda girl. So I was ready to sell the palm tree rug and swap it out for a clean, simple neutral one. Target is my go to for these kind of things, and sure enough the project 62 line did not disappoint.

Once my eyes laid on this rug I knew I needed to bring it home with me. Ava and Tucker approved as soon as it was layed down 🙂

5. Added some new clay flower pots

There is a local green house, called Frey’s and they sell some pretty cool stuff! Not only an abundance of beautiful flowers, but pots galore! I could honestly buy everything, it’s dangerous! So I encourage you to have a list of what you need and try to stick to that…. Haha that won’t happen once you step foot into a greenhouse!

I love that these pots are handmade and I love how all three go so well together!

So friends it doesn’t take much to turn a plain, blah space into something magnificent! You don’t need to do as much as what we did. The biggest thing that I think for any space that will completely change the feel and mood of a space, is paint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So of your on a tight budget, that is my recommendation for you to do first!

Thanks for reading, I am gunna go and enjoy my cozy deck now:)

A couple simple ways to freshen your home for spring!

Getting you home ready for springtime should not have to feel like a chore, and definitely should not break the bank either. Here I have a couple simple ways to freshen up for home for spring. Just take away an idea or two to use yourself to help fill that craving for Spring we are all having right now!

These simple ideas for freshening up your house for Spring are meant to help make your space brighter, leave you with a big smile, and help to reduce any stress you are currently feeling. The tips I am sharing here are super easy to implement and quick, because no one wants to spend a ton of time, stuck, focusing on one small space.

1.   Start with a clean slate

Clean everything! Clean out all the dirt that winter left behind. Scrub the floors, dust and wash the windows and shades/blinds to let the sun shine through. Don’t forget behind the appliances and your furniture! Unclutter shelving, cabinets, tables and counter tops. Instantly you will feel so much better!

2.   Organize before you decorate

Get winter out of the way! Organize your closet to spring and summer clothing and shoes, and gather your gardening things too! Reorganizing will give you a whole new outlook for spring.

3. Fill a vase with some fresh blooms.

4. Hang a spring wreath on your front door.

5. Toss a spring pillow onto your couch and/or bed.

6. Change out an art piece/picture.

7. Use fresh or faux greens throughout your home.

8. Replace your hand towels.

9.   Lighten up your outdoor space.

10.   Switch out your doormat.

As stated before, these are simple things, but can really add color and life to your home. It’s not all about needing something new and better, but choosing to re-purpose and re-organize what  you already have. The great thing about Spring is the growth and life waking from the dead of winter, so enjoy and celebrate that! Bring that beautiful green into your home, making it as gorgeous as your outdoor space!

Happy Spring!!

A front entry referesh

After painting and refreshing the 90% of our saltbox home which included the living room, upstairs bedrooms, our backroom and hallway, there was one more thing that needed painted… While I have been thinking a lot about refreshing this space, I couldn’t quite come to terms how I wanted to do so. But after some inspiration of people painting their interior doors, I knew I wanted to join the party! Our walls are “Agreeable Gray”by SW, and “Peppercorn” was the perfect deep color grey to pop in our space.

Prior it was just plain boring. A white door, not much wall decor, and the carpet just needed… something.

What a difference a can of paint makes! It took me 1.5 days to paint to allow full dry, but was so very worth it! Now that front entryway has a cozy and inviting feeling. The wall between the window and front door was empty, and honestly I had so many ideas in my head as far as how to fill the space, but none of them had I loved. And I feel that loving it, is so important!!!

On a whim, I starting drawing up some floral prints and knew just where to put them! I love how the black accents of the smooth grey behind. Even better, I had the frames already on hand thankfully, since normally I struggle with choosing frames, there’s thousands to consider!

Here are the couple changes I made, that made a big difference (besides painting the interior front door):

  • Painting the interior front door Peppercorn by SW
  • Spray painting the hardware black
  • Adding an accent rug (click here for exact item)
  • Drawing up some prints and placing in 2 picture frames we already had

And tadaaaaa!!!!!! There you have it! Four simple changes is all it took before it looked like a whole new space!

Thanks for reading friends!!!!!!

Christmas Home Decor in our small Saltbox home 2019

In case you didn’t know, Christmas is next week! How about that?! I am going to share an almost complete tour of our saltbox home that sits between town on one side and farmland on the other. Did I tell you how much I just love where we live?!

Let’s start in the Master Bedroom! My favorite part of our room is that it has 3 windows!!! Which means we get a ton of light during the day, and I love it! As you can see we don’t have a tree in our bedroom, which I would love to plan for next year, but we added some other fun, affordable and cute items! Not much was changed, but all the small touches make a big difference.

This season has been super busy for us, so I apologize if everything isn’t just perfect. But hey, it’s a space that is lived in every single day! So it’s ok.

This is the room you see right when you walk in our front door, our living room.

While living in a unique home, from our downstairs you can actually walk in a full circle through all the rooms… How cool is that?! I can tell ya that when our fluff balls get in their running spurts, they absolutely love it! Our petite kitchen is directly off from our living room. One of my favorite things to do to this space, is add Christmas garland around the sink! It’s simple and adds so much to a small space.

Our sweet little kitchen

Who cannot love a coffee buffet in their kitchen/dining area?  See our  “A coffee buffet transformation” here.

Our back room, which I feel is definitely the coziest room in the house! This was my favorite room to decorate this year, between the mantel and the built ins!

“Our Back Room Transformation” was the biggest and longest DIY home project we have completed, but yet our most favorite. Why? Check out the blog!

Although this is the only tiny area that we have in our upstairs hallway, we love dressing it up for each season!

I hope you enjoyed exploring our home along with me, and hope to see you back here again soon!

A simple outdoor Christmas 2019

Some of us feel pressured or encouraged to do more and more every year with all new great ideas for Christmas. And that is ok, but know it’s also ok if we aren’t up to 100% with everyone else as far as how they are decorating, what they are doing to decorate, or how much they are fully  decorating.

So, this year we changed up the decor outside our home for Christmas, and I love it!!! We changed our wreaths this year to something more neutral, and honestly, I like it so much better specifically for our home.

On black Friday we zipped down to Kmart, and they had a great selection of ribbon and bows! Nine bows, and 2 spools of ribbon (I could not locate online the exact color, but it’s this exact thing but in white) for $21.44!!! That is 50% off what we would have spent. We simply attached the bows to the wreaths by using the attached wire already there and looping it around and then twisting like, a thousand times! The ribbon I cut to length and then looped around the wreaths and held through the window at the top to hold. Just the extra ribbon being held inside at the top by the window keeps them very secure during weather conditions.

The Front Porch

I will say one thing, I wish so badly that what I had was a big wrap around porch. I have probably said that in so many blogs, but it’s true! My husband and I said if we decide to stay (since we love this area so much) then we would add on, this is a must! One day!!!

Our sweet little porch looks a little different this year! Last year I added a metal bucket and placed some wood pieces in it with a lantern aside. This year I took the metal bucket away and added a super cute petite 2.5 ft, flocked tree in my barn bucket on legs. That is one that I just absolutely adore since I’ve bought it at a barn sale. Aside is a lantern with outdoor, waterproof remote controlled candles that I purchased from amazon! I’ve always had bad luck with candles going bad with weather conditions. But so far so good, they are holding strong!

A Quick Side Note!

The lantern previously was so rusted and faded from hard use. So instead of going out and buying a new one, I simply taped off the glass and used black exterior spray paint that we already had on hand.

And instead of placing the wreath on the sled this year, I just left the skates. And I am so thankful I did! It’s more simple and doesn’t look overbearing as much. I like how much more visible the skates are now too.

This year I am just so happy with how everything turned out for our porch. It’s simplicity and cuteness in one just makes me feel at ease and giddy on the inside! 🙂

Our side tree, front and side bushes have lighting on and the deer were placed.

Deer – As much as I love the deer, I didn’t like the lighting on them…. It was like a led blue undertone and it just didn’t go with the rest of our warm white lighting. So this year Peter took all those lights off and added white lighting, it made a big difference, and was easier than what we anticipated.

What’s missing??? We excluded the lit walkway this year. As much as I love it, sometimes it can be a pain.  The walkway included stakes in the ground that held strands of lights that formed the brick pathway. It’s actually funny because when the dogs were let out, they would either trip or have to find a way to hop over them. So not only the time it took to put them up, but they were in the way for the dogs, so we decided to not put them up this year.

I hope you enjoyed our “Simple outdoor Christmas 2019”, thanks for reading!! Stay tuned for another blog coming your way on our indoor decor:)
