A simple outdoor Christmas 2019

Some of us feel pressured or encouraged to do more and more every year with all new great ideas for Christmas. And that is ok, but know it’s also ok if we aren’t up to 100% with everyone else as far as how they are decorating, what they are doing to decorate, or how much they are fully  decorating.

So, this year we changed up the decor outside our home for Christmas, and I love it!!! We changed our wreaths this year to something more neutral, and honestly, I like it so much better specifically for our home.

On black Friday we zipped down to Kmart, and they had a great selection of ribbon and bows! Nine bows, and 2 spools of ribbon (I could not locate online the exact color, but it’s this exact thing but in white) for $21.44!!! That is 50% off what we would have spent. We simply attached the bows to the wreaths by using the attached wire already there and looping it around and then twisting like, a thousand times! The ribbon I cut to length and then looped around the wreaths and held through the window at the top to hold. Just the extra ribbon being held inside at the top by the window keeps them very secure during weather conditions.

The Front Porch

I will say one thing, I wish so badly that what I had was a big wrap around porch. I have probably said that in so many blogs, but it’s true! My husband and I said if we decide to stay (since we love this area so much) then we would add on, this is a must! One day!!!

Our sweet little porch looks a little different this year! Last year I added a metal bucket and placed some wood pieces in it with a lantern aside. This year I took the metal bucket away and added a super cute petite 2.5 ft, flocked tree in my barn bucket on legs. That is one that I just absolutely adore since I’ve bought it at a barn sale. Aside is a lantern with outdoor, waterproof remote controlled candles that I purchased from amazon! I’ve always had bad luck with candles going bad with weather conditions. But so far so good, they are holding strong!

A Quick Side Note!

The lantern previously was so rusted and faded from hard use. So instead of going out and buying a new one, I simply taped off the glass and used black exterior spray paint that we already had on hand.

And instead of placing the wreath on the sled this year, I just left the skates. And I am so thankful I did! It’s more simple and doesn’t look overbearing as much. I like how much more visible the skates are now too.

This year I am just so happy with how everything turned out for our porch. It’s simplicity and cuteness in one just makes me feel at ease and giddy on the inside! 🙂

Our side tree, front and side bushes have lighting on and the deer were placed.

Deer – As much as I love the deer, I didn’t like the lighting on them…. It was like a led blue undertone and it just didn’t go with the rest of our warm white lighting. So this year Peter took all those lights off and added white lighting, it made a big difference, and was easier than what we anticipated.

What’s missing??? We excluded the lit walkway this year. As much as I love it, sometimes it can be a pain.  The walkway included stakes in the ground that held strands of lights that formed the brick pathway. It’s actually funny because when the dogs were let out, they would either trip or have to find a way to hop over them. So not only the time it took to put them up, but they were in the way for the dogs, so we decided to not put them up this year.

I hope you enjoyed our “Simple outdoor Christmas 2019”, thanks for reading!! Stay tuned for another blog coming your way on our indoor decor:)

Our brick porch filled with pumpkin galore!

Hello!

Guys, it’s Fall! And ah I just LOVE this time of year!

I love stepping out on the front porch on fall crispy mornings, watching the colorful leaves drop from massive trees that line the streets with a hot cup of coffee, and of course wearing a favorite flannel:) This fall my hubby and I have a lot of fun things planned, like, a sunflower festival, going through a maze, apple picking, wagon rides, lots of campfires, and enjoying a warm apple cider donut, or maybe two…. 😉

This year I decorated a little different for our front porch! Instead of using both sides, I only did one side to allow more room and not feel or look too crowded. I was excited to find out our local greenhouse not only has a huge colorful selection in the summer, but they also sell fall items like pumpkins, mums and fall flowers! While I purchased a mum and a couple pumpkins from the local greenhouse, I also purchased a couple fun and unique pumpkins and a bushel of burgundy corn from the Country Barn, located within a couple miles away! Guys I just love how fall makes everything so cozy and inviting:)

I have been watching all your fun instagram posts about decorating your front porch, how exciting is it?! As you can see we don’t have a lot of room to play around with, but we are thankful we can still decorate it with a little bit of lovin. For right now we will enjoy the space we have, but we are looking forward to the future when we have a lot more space to decorate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Fall, and I look forward to see more posts, and fun things you guys also have in store for this season!

An empty space…. Isn’t so empty anymore!

It’s so easy to become overwhelmed and not come up with a clear plan when there are so many ideas and thoughts running through your mind for a space! Sometimes you just need to put it aside, and give it a break. Most times (at least for me) when I do put it aside, GRAND ideas come to mind, and usually are the best of idea! So I encourage you to do that. If you find yourself becoming stressed because you can’t finalize a plan on either a project or a piece of decor, get away from it for a little and focus on another project you’re doing.

Before

After

This space has been empty since Peter first moved in. I knew something should go here, but I just couldn’t come up with a good plan for it. Well, last week I was looking on pinterest for some inspiration, something very similar to this popped up, and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with our space! In case you want to check her out, it is Lara Kaighin’s “Miss Fortunately” pinterest board. You won’t be disappointed!

Foremost, I wanted something simple, useful, and pretty of course! But also not overbearing since it’s not a large space. As far as making it useful, I wanted to have an area that our guests can hang their coats and place their shoes as they enter, and we found the solution! I also did not want to spend a fortune, I remembered I still had a gift card for Hobby Lobby, so the next morning I hopped in the car and I went off to the store!

I purchased:

  • Sign ($29.99- 40%) = $17.99
  • Greenery $4
  • Metal plant holder ($9.99-66%)  = $3.99
  • Wooden peg rack $15.99 ( click here for link)

The bench and pillow, we already had!!!

Everything was easy to hang, and it all fit just perfectly in that little space! I am so thankful my bench fits so well there. I was shooting for a corner basket there originally, but I couldn’t find anything skinny enough while also having some height. On a whim I remembered the white, shabby chic bench in our attic!!!!!!!!!!!! Went and grabbed it, placed it, and was so happy with the look! For now I brought down this pillow, but will probably replace it in the near future, because it’s actually  the Christmas accent pillow (in reverse) haha, but who would know?!

Overall, we very happy with the result, and it fills this spot just perfectly! Thanks for reading!!

A $10 yardsale find!

I am so excited to share with you my $10 yard sale find! Spontaneously, I woke up, nudged my hubby and said “let’s go yard sailing!”, and so we did! I feel like when we go at unplanned times, is when we always find the goodies, and that’s totally ok!

As soon as I spotted this cabinet, I knew it had to come home with us! It’s the perfect size, it’s MINT (mint is my all time FAV color!!!), and I love the rustic feel of this cabinet! Right before we purchased it, my husband turns and says, “Britt, do you know where you’re even putting this?”

“NOPE! But I will find a spot” (with a big smile on my face). AND, sure enough, after we got home, while I was putting some things away, I instantly thought of the perfect spot! After the cabinet was cleaned thoroughly, I placed it up in the hallway and it was meant to be! Not too big, and not too small for the space. I love the pop it gives against our “agreeable gray” wall color, and how the frames (that were already there) above add to the feel of the cabinet, it just all flows so well together! 🙂

Before/After

We did have to move the frames a tad bit higher so that the basket wouldn’t get in the way of the lower picture…. But that was an easy fix!

Not the biggest deal, but I am trying to decide if I should paint the inside or get creative with some wallpaper?? I honestly am leaning towards not painting it, and I say that because how it is now, it just gives it so much character and so such feeling. I think painting it will take away the rustic/chippy from it, I for sure don’t want that! BUT I may wallpaper it, I will update you on that in the near future! There’s something about keeping at least one piece of furniture original and being ok with a lot of marking/wear&tear to add to the farmhouse style.  That being said……..

You know how after you place something in it’s spot and you just absolutely love it right away… and have such a good feeling about the space??? That’s what I am trying to explain, and I hope you can kinda feel that as you read this post.

On a side note…. I encourage you to go check out some nearby yard sales, and find something fun to add in your home! If you do find something cool, please share with me! I plan to do more yard sailing this year:)
