Here is how you can refresh your deck, like we did!

I can't believe it's finally here! Today is the reveal day for our deck refresh! We are so happy and excited to share our deck that got a full overhaul with you. And we LOVE how it turned out!

This was a very necessary deck refresh, since our deck was beginning to look unappealing and was not feel inviting at all. As of the summer of 2022 we fully completed this space but it was sure not an easy project, it was tiring, dirty, and many repairs needed, as well as a few extra things bought (due to loosing things). But we were ready to conquer this project!

Let's take a look at the before:

The very first thing we conquered was repainting the deck! We used Behr Deckover. It is a thicker waterproof paint refinisher that fills in the cracks and helps extend the life of your deck and living space so you can enjoy it. We applied 2 coats allowing a 24 hour drying time in between with the color Slate Grey.

          The After:

Our goal was to keep this refresh affordable, and a space that we just wanted to go and relax after a long day at work, as well as host some friends and family.

The metal top gazebo was a good find through wayfair! We are very happy with how durable it is, the sleek design and how fast it arrived!

You know how they say, "third time is a charm?" well  it was true for our gazebo! I will spare you the details, but in the end we are SO happy to have a gazebo on our deck, and now we don't have to worry about a gazebo "getting lost in delivery" or a gazebo that wouldn't fit on our deck "due to wrong measurements listed on the website". Both of those situations may or may not have happened, I'll leave that to your imagination.

Side note: We recently purchased a movie screen and projector and this deck is PERFECT!!! We also can/have hung a sheet in the middle of the gazebo for screen purposes as well. Cannot wait for movie nights here!!

And to finish it off, these awesome and reasonably priced solar lanterns are from Walmart, can you believe it?! I think they complete the whole dining area just perfectly! We weren't sure how much sun would actually get to the panels due to the trees, but we were in luck we get a significant amt of light that strongly hits both panels! And surprisingly these lights give off a good amount of light and their batteries stay on through the entire night!

But a flashback, to before we actually purchased the house. While we were viewing the house in the walk through, I envisioned one side to be a cozy lounging area and the other side to be a sit down dining area. And that is exactly what we did! We found this super comfortable outdoor sectional at Lowe's.

Beside the sectional is a propane tank cover that provides 2 things: hiding the tank and also acts as an end table! You wouldn't know the gas fire pit was originally a bluish grey when we purchased it, I applied a heat resistant spray paint! $10 later and bam it's a whole new fire pit (we almost returned it because we didn't like the color, I am so glad we didn't).

We are already loving this new space!!! We love spending time out here whether it's eating dinner under our new gazebo or snuggling up on our outdoor sectional sofa around the cozy gas fire pit.  Our dogs Ava and Tucker even love it! Anytime we open that patio door, they instantly jump up on the sofa and want to just hang out with us!

** After having the outdoor sectional for a few months now, I can say that we are very happy with our purchase! Here are our thoughts:

  • Pros: Very comfortable, neutral in color, great design, and a good compact size
  • Con: Cushions are super light and hard to keep clean all the time

As you can tell from the photos, we are already enjoying this cozy and inviting space! We have hosted some friends and family here already and the compliments just reassure us we made the right decisions with designing this space. Fall is just around the corner, so we will definitely be out here a lot more!!! Thanks for reading!
